On Feb. 11, members of the Forty & Eight, an independent veterans organization, hosted their ladies at a Valentine's Dinner.

Voiture 925 of the Forty & Eight held its promenade at Alliance American Legion Post No. 166. Dinner was prepared by Claudia Leasure, the Post No. 166 manager.

One of the primary charities of the Forty & Eight is the support of nurses training through grants.

A special guest for the occasion was scholarship winner Hayley Herrera of Lake Milton.

Herrera attended the event with her parents, John and Angela Carritz.

She is in her second year of nursing school at Ashland University. Herrera is a graduate of Jackson Milton High School in North Jackson. She has two younger stepsisters.

Herrera was presented a check by Chef de Guere Joe Rockwell. He said it was an honor to make this presentation and her parents should feel honored that she was elected.
