Around Ravenna by Patsy Artz

Becky Frawley has the greatest family ever! Becky will turn 60 on April 10 and since Feb. 10, her children and husband have been giving her a gift every day. Her children, Amy Hunter, Heather Bello, Mat Frawley and Sara Masters and husband John have given her some of the most thoughtful and caring gifts I have ever heard of.

One of them was a necklace that says "Mother" in 12 languages. Another, a book of sayings from each child and her husband. Daughter Amy gave her a $100 Grand candy bar. Amy told her she was worth a lot more than that. Becky has received gift cards, Reese's peanut butter cups, M&Ms. You name it. One day she did not receive her gift for the day and asked husband John, "Where's today's gift?" Without hesitation, John went back to the garage and got her latest gift.

Becky is leaving for Las Vegas April 10 to see her daughter, Amy. Again, Becky was concerned that she would not get her gift for the day. Amy assured her that she would get her gift.

Now Becky, I realize you are having a great time of this, however, it can't last forever. I don't want you to go into "Gift Withdrawal." Try to be brave.

Ravenna Township received a donation of $500 for the Flagpole restoration fund from the Shalersville Township trustees. They sent a note along with it saying, "We do try to keep our township in good repair as well, and support those in our neighboring communities that do likewise." What a wonderful gesture. The Ravenna Township trustees and residents thank you very much and appreciate such goodwill among townships. Thanks to Dennis J. Bujak, Frank R. Ruehr and Nancy J. Vines.

The Ravenna Township trustees were very disheartened that we could not get the grant from Don Wilson III to double our $10,000 for the Flagpole restoration. It would have been a win-win situation for everyone. We did not realize that the grant was for a private donation only. We are still hoping that a private party will come forward to donate $10,000 so that the Flagpole can be restored soon.

I visited Ed Harris' art collection last week at his 3090 S.R. 59 location in Ravenna. I was simply awed by his skill as a painter. Eddie paints many themes, however I was most impressed with his Haiti works of art. The "Haitian Boy and the Rescue Worker & Girl" were so thoughtful and meaningful I could not quit looking at them. Eddie captured their pain and feelings so masterfully. If you have a chance, call Eddie at 330-296-2178 and check out these masterpieces. I am glad I did.

Don't forget the Ravenna Elks Club's Texas Hold'em today. Registration starts at 11 a.m. Cards fly at 1 p.m. The Elks is located at 776 N. Freedom St., Ravenna.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.
