The March dinner meeting of The Garden Club of Kent will be held on March 25 in the Pierson Meeting Room of the United Methodist Church of Kent, 1435 E. Main St. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The speaker will be Hanna Rhoades of Bedford, owner of Gardening Know How, one of the leading gardening advice sites on the Internet.
Her talk, an "Introduction to Heirloom Tomatoes," will explain what heirloom tomatoes are, where they come from and why people grow them.
The event is open to the public. Dinner reservations are required by March 22 by calling Harold at 330-673-1686.
Plans are moving forward for the second annual Mother's Day hanging basket sale.
Many locally grown hanging baskets of flowers will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 10 and 11 at the Ode to Joy, 480 Ravenna Road, Streetsboro. Also available will be select garden tools, plant sale tickets and gift certificates for the annual plant sale, scheduled for May 23 to 26.
Proceeds from the Mother's Day hanging basket sale and the annual plant sale support scholarships for students studying horticulture or conservation and Project Green, a gardening program for youth with special needs.
The Garden Club of Kent is a not-for-profit organization and accepts cash, checks and credit cards.
