Kent American Legion Post No. 496 recently held its first-ever M*A*S*H Night, inviting the public to attend dressed as their favorite M*A*S*H TV show character and meet the new post commander, Sons of the American Legion commander and Women's Auxiliary president. There were about 150 people in attendance.
The event was organized and decorated by the Women's Auxiliary. It took 40 people just to set up the main tent.
Featured during the event were a Korean auction, 50/50 raffle, karaoke, a disc jockey from Magic Disc Productions, and prizes awarded throughout the evening.
Winning the costume contest for best dressed M*A*S*H character was Joyce Hannum, first vice commander, who was dressed as Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan.
Members of the Legion Riders and the SAL cooked hot dogs and hamburgers while those attending brought dishes to share. The evening ended with a fireworks display, put on by the city of Kent for the Kent Heritage Festival, that was visible from the Legion grounds.
