The Portage County District Library has received a monetary donation from the Friends of the Garrettsville Library to support the assembly of senior memory kits made by the Outreach Services department.
Senior memory kits assist with recollection, sensory abilities and perception. Included in the memory kits are books, DVDs, objects related to the theme, and additional material gathered from other sources.
Current senior memory kits have themes such as laughter being the best medicine, remembering World War II, kitchen memories and woodworking.
In addition, the senior memory kits have become very popular with area nursing homes, as dementia-related issues have grown more prevalent with nursing home residents.
More and more, the kits are being incorporated into nursing home activities.
