Lecture on African- American quilts set

Published:

A lecture on 19th century quilts made by slaves will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kent Free Library, 312 W. Main St.

The patterns stitched into the quilts sometimes contained hidden messages, conveying essential information for escape along the Underground Railroad.

Barbara A. Lyons will tell the story of these historic African-American quilts. Lyons is a musician, choir director, and fiber artist.
