Maplewood students place in BPA event

Students at Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna recently took part in the Business Professionals of America State Competition held in March in Columbus.

Taking top honors at the state level competition were Mikayla Handy (Waterloo High School), who won fifth place in Integrated Office Applications, Summer Hurd (Crestwood High School), who won first place in Accounting Using QuickBooks, Megan Hunt (Field High School), who won second place in Accounting Using QuickBooks, and Alexis Dean (James A. Garfield High School), who placed in the top 10 for Basic Office Systems and Procedures

Summer will be attending the BPA 2014 National Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, Ind., April 30 too May 4.

She will be representing Maplewood Career Center at the national competition and will join more than 5,000 other conference delegates from across the nation to participate in BPA national level business skills competitions.

Mikayla, Summer, Megan, and Alexis are enrolled in the Administrative & Medical Office Technology program at Maplewood Career Center instructed by Maria Perez.

Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school, college, and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology.
