Local gourd artist Hal Hall is the featured artist at the Kent Free Library during the month of May.
Hall's showcase, entitled "Gourdcraft, Beautifully Simple, Quietly Elegant," highlights the art of pyrography, the technique of burning images on the gourds with a hot needle pointed tool.
The designs are enhanced using beads, feathers, leather and stains.
Gourds created by Hal Hall are included in collections throughout the United States and Canada, as well as England, Poland, Australia and Africa.
The showcase is located on the second floor of the library, 312 W. Main St., and is free and open to the public.
