Around Windham

In the spring, people are always asking when is the Spring Clean-up? Readers were asking this question back in February. I finally have the answer.

The Village of Windham and Windham Township annual Spring Clean-up will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22 and 23 or until dumpsters are full at the Windham Sewer Plant. The plant is located at 9958 E. Center St., Windham. Four tires per family will be allowed. No paint/paint cans, propane/propane tanks or construction materials are allowed. Start making plans to get rid of your unneeded stuff.

A new accomplishment achieved by Windham's Fire Department is providing advanced life support (ALS). This service started last month. They are able to provide this service to our residents and visitors 24 hours a day/seven days a week by Windham's own fire department personnel.

This means when you dial 911 when you have a emergency -- you get a higher level of service/care from the Windham rescue squad. Windham's Fire Department is striving to provide the best in emergency medical services. Thanks to the department for working hard to provide Windham residents with this level of care!

In other fire department news, our fire department is hosting a 40-hour hazardous materials tech class. Although this class is not a requirement, eight members of the department are taking part in the class. This will enhance their training to better handle hazardous situations (both in industry and roadways/turnpike).

This class is being instructed by instructors from Cleveland State University and is free to the members and taxpayers! Costs are covered from a Public Utilities Commission of Ohio grant. It is great that the department is going after government grants to fund worthwhile services for our community.

At about 3:30 to 3:35 I woke up and then heard gun shots very near the house. This was not a nice way to wake up. My guess was that someone hit a deer and then shot it. I called 911. The officer that came to the house was very nice, and respectful. I appreciated their efforts and quick response.
