A celebration honoring the 103rd birthday of Virginia Mills of Ravenna was held May 20, 2017, with 30 people in attendance.
The event was held at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Patti and John Valentine of Cuyahoga Falls, and was hosted by her daughters, Patti Valentine and Sandy Verschoot.
Out-of-town guests included her daughter, Sandy Verschoot, and her cousins, Kathy and Greg Horton of Michigan. She received a bouquet of spring flowers from her sister, Helen Jean Haney of Fort Myers, Fla.
Birthday cakes were made by her step-granddaughter for Virginia as well as a cake for her great-grandson, Mitchell Lewis, whose birthday also was celebrated since the party was on his actual birthday.
Virginia Mills was born on May 19, 1914, and graduated from Ravenna Township High School. She attended Kent State University for one year and Marion College for three-plus years. She was employed as a teacher in the Ravenna School System for 28 years.
A resident of Portage County, Mrs. Mills was married to Frank Mills from July 30, 1939, until his death on April 19, 2011.
Her family includes two daughters, one son-in-law, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
