Members of Annevar, the Ravenna Garden Club, recently held their summer meeting at City Gardener and Florist of Ravenna.
Their host, owner Paul Moore, surprised the 15 members with an "International Morning Tea." The menu included Brazilian coffee, Amsterdam jams, sea salt butter from Paris, along with many pastries.
The ladies were then treated to a tour and history of the historic Queen Anne Victorian home built in 1883 located at 329 N. Chestnut St., in Ravenna.
One of the distinguished former owners of this home was Dr. Thomas Mendenhalt, who was a renowned physicist, geologist and scientist and one of Ohio State University's seven founding fathers. Of his many achievements was his work as the superintendent of the U.S. Coast and Geometric Survey that earned him the honor of a glacier named for him and his work in protecting the seals of the Aleutian waters.
After their meeting, each member of Annevar received a boxed rose upon their departure.
