The Kent Lions Club welcomed back Hometown Bank as a major sponsor of the club's 10th annual Sweet Corn Festival. The festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 at Beckwith Orchard in Kent.
Hometown Bank sponsorship will support the Lions fundraiser as a means to serve the citizens of the greater Portage County area by funding the live entertainment offered throughout the festival. More sponsors are needed to help with expenses for the festival.
Admission is free and free parking is available at the corner of Brady Lake Road and Lake Rockwell Road, courtesy of the Lake Brady United Methodist Church. Emerald Transportation will transport people from the parking area to the festival.
The Lions will offer boiled sweet corn and sausage sandwiches, peach pie and beverages for purchase. There will be vendors, pony rides, carnival games and contests for children. The Lions will provide free face painting for children. Lions are selling tickets at $5 each for the Sweet Corn Fest Raffle with a grand prize of $1,000; second prize of $500; and third prize of $250.
All proceeds from the event and raffle will support the Kent Lions Club sight projects, such as providing eye exams and glasses for people in the Kent area without means to obtain them.
For more information, sponsors may contact Lion Fran Hardesty at 330-678- 4012 or Lion Jane Gwinn at 330-678-2239.
