Keith Martin, 44, of 219 Lake St., Kent, was arrested by troopers from the Ravenna Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol and charged with abduction, a third-degree felony. Martin also faces misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, domestic violence, abduction and endangering children.
Martin's arrest marks the seventh time he's been charged with DUI since September 1978, according to highway patrol records.
The Canfield highway patrol post received a cellular phone call at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday, reporting a complaint of a possible domestic violence incident on I-76.
Troopers from the Ravenna patrol post stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved in the alleged incident at a restaurant near I-76 on S.R. 44 in Rootstown soon thereafter.
A Kent woman and her 7-year-old daughter were found in the trunk of the vehicle, and the woman's 9-year-old son was found in the back seat. The woman and her daughter are believed to have crawled into the trunk from the back seat area, according to a patrol report.
The woman and her children, who know Martin, did not report being injured during the incident.
Martin was arrested at the restaurant and transported to the Portage
County Jail. He refused to submit to a breath test to determine his
blood-alcohol content, and he remained held in the Portage County Jail
this morning. He was to have been arraigned this afternoon in Portage
County Municipal Court in Ravenna.
