The National Weather Service said a frontal system

The National Weather Service said a frontal system will usher in cold air that will send the mercury plunging into the 20s in some parts of the state.

A freeze warning was in effect for the southwestern third of the state.

Lows tonight will be in the upper 20s and low 30s, except near Lake Erie, where the warmer water will hold temperatures to around 40 degrees.

Lake-effect snow showers are possible along Erie shoreline.

Highs on Wednesday will be in the 40s.

The record-high temperature for this date at the Columbus weather

station was 83 degrees in 1953 while the record low was 17 in 1952.

Sunset tonight will be at 6:43 p.m. and sunrise Wednesday at 7:50

a.m.
