Appeals court judge Cynthia West Rice appointed to judicial committee

Judge Cynthia Westcott Rice, one of five judges who sit on the 11th District Court of Appeals in Warren, has been named co-chair of the Criminal Law & Procedure Committee of the Ohio Judicial Conference.

The 11th District Court of Appeals hears appeals of cases decided in Portage, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull counties. Rice, a resident of Brookfield in Trumbull County, began a two-year term on the committee starting Jan. 1, the OJC announced Thursday.

A graduate of the University of Akron School of Law and a former assistant Trumbull County prosecutor and former assistant U.S. Attorney, Rice was first elected to the appeals court in November 2002 and re-elected in November 2008.

The jurisdiction of the 11th District Court of Appeals includes Portage County.
