Speed limits may soon be coming down on a couple sections of county roads.
The Portage County engineer is asking the state to reduce speed limits from 55 mph to 45 mph on a section of Parkman Road between S.R. 82 and S.R. 305 in Nelson. The same speed is being sought for two sections of Ravenna Road between Diagonal Road and Brady Lake Road in Franklin Township.
The changes were sought by the Ohio Highway Patrol after serious crashes on the roads.
The county engineer did speed studies which look at, among other criteria, the width of the road, average speed, the number of accidents and residential density along the roads.
Approval for the reductions must come from the Ohio Director of Transportation. No changes will be made to the speed limit until approval is received. That's not expected not before spring.
