Akron woman busted for stealing truck driver's car

It's a fairy tale, just updated for a new generation: Boy meets girl. Boy sweeps girl off her feet. Girl allegedly steals boy's car.

Stacie I. Grumney, 26, of Akron, was arrested Friday by Brimfield police after allegedly stealing a black 1998 Isuzu Rodeo from a man she met at the Akron strip club where she works, then taking it on a drunken joy ride.

Grumney is charged with one count of grand theft of a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, one count of operating a vehicle under the influence, and two counts of driving under suspension, all first-degree misdemeanors.

Calling it his "very own 'fractured fairy tale,'" Brimfield Police Chief David Oliver said Grumney met the man at the Akron establishment. The two struck up a friendship and the man, a truck driver, took her back to a Brimfield parking lot.

Oliver said a local business allows the victim to store his vehicle in their lot and take it out for a spin when he passes through the area. Oliver aid he apparently is a regular at the strip club and struck up a friendship with the woman.

Upon arriving back at the Tallmadge Road business where the victim's truck was parked, she allegedly got in and took off. The victim reported the car stolen.

Oliver said Grumney tried to get back to Akron, but turned around upon seeing an officer at the side of the road on an unrelated traffic stop, he said. Grumney turned around, but ran almost straight into Sgt. Matthew McCarty, who stopped the vehicle and arrested her, Oliver said.

Arraigned Friday in Portage County Municipal Court, she was released on a personal recognizance bond.

  • Well, if he wasn't such a perv......

  • Do you think maybe there is a little more involved here? Could she have felt that she was not paid enough for her service, so she took his car as collateral?
