Rep. Joyce joins Great Lakes Task Force

U.S. Rep. David P. Joyce, of Ohio's 14th Congressional District, has joined the Great Lakes Task Force.

"The Great Lakes is one of the jewels of the United States. It contains 20 percent of the world's surface fresh water and it's imperative that we protect it for its environmental significance but also because of its economic might. Studies have shown that more than 1.5 million jobs are directly connected to these five lakes, generating $62 billion in wages. For these reasons and many more, I want to work on policies to protect the lakes from invasive species and to pump up their economic might," Joyce said.

The U.S. House and Senate Great Lakes Task Forces are bipartisan working groups within the Northeast-Midwest Congressional and Senate Coalitions. Members of the Great Lakes Task Forces work together to build support for key regional programs to enhance environmental quality and economic development throughout the Great Lakes basin. Ohio's 14th Congressional District has 82.5 percent of its area in the Great Lakes basin.
