A Ravenna teen who assaulted a man when he was caught attempting to break into the victim's car in September is serving an 18-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to felony robbery.

Justin L. Shaffer, 19, with a last known address of 454 Pratt St., was sentenced by Portage County Common Pleas John Enlow, with credit for 81 days served while awaiting trial.

Shaffer was arrested by Ravenna police on Sept. 8, 2012, after assaulting a South Prospect Street man who caught Shaffer breaking into his car. Assaulting someone during a theft is felony robbery under Ohio law.

Shaffer was one of several people arrested last spring and summer for stealing items out of cars parked in Ravenna and Ravenna Township.

Shaffer was arrested for stealing a cellphone from an East Riddle Avenue resident on May 17, 2012, and was caught with a backpack and $140 reported stolen from another Ravenna resident on Aug. 3, 2012, according to Ravenna police.
