A Randolph man has been sentenced to three years probation and labeled a Tier II sex offender after pleading guilty to having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl last summer.

Robert K. Hyde, 27, of 2192 Hartville Road, was sentenced by Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow last week. He pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony, in December, according to court records.

Enlow ordered Hyde to register his address with his local sheriff's office every six months for the next 25 years. Hyde also was ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program, submit to random drug tests and have no contact with the victim. Enlow told Hyde he could face a year in prison if he violates his probation.

Defense attorney Eric Fink sought probation for his client, saying Hyde had no prior criminal record. The Portage County Prosecutor's Office left sentencing up to Enlow, with the minimum sentence being probation or local jail time, and the maximum being up to 18 months in prison.

A Portage County grand jury indicted Hyde in August 2012 on one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony, and two counts of importuning, both fifth-degree felonies. The charges stemmed from a Portage County Sheriff's Office investigation that revealed Hyde twice solicited a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual conduct with him between June 1 and Aug. 1, 2012, and engaged in sexual conduct with her on or about July 24, 2012, according to court records.

No proof of sexual contact. Her word against his. If your daughter says she had sexual contact with the guy down the road, he will be charged with. It does not matter if it happend. All that matters is what the girl says.

Sad this is all he got doesn't make sense. @truthbknown, The ORC states what sexual contact and conduct mean and it isn't chatting on the internet. Sounds like you or a "friend" got in trouble for the internet thing. Just so you know, for that to have happened he KNEW he was talking to a child. Please do not believe the stories from these pervs that they didn't know how old the child was or the girl was 17 because that is NOT true. They ALL have the same story with their own little spin on it. These are adults and they are SUPPOSED to know better, but some (mostley pervs) don't. The child is not held responsible because they don't have to know better. Do I agree with this law, not all of it. I do know that if I don't agree with it or want it changed I CAN start that process just like you can.

A 27 year old man with a 13 year old girl and he gets probation, what the **** kind of justice is that? It is crap like this that make people think of taking care of the problem themselves. Let us take care of the judges next election.

@truthbknown "...engaged in sexual conduct with her on or about July 24, 2012, according to court records."

Sounds like a little more than facebook discussions!

Just a thought. Lets say a girl gets on the computer, looks up a giys number off Facebook. Starts sending him messages. Tells the guy she is older than what she really is. After 6 months or so mommy and daddy decide to seewhat she is up to on the computer. They find.all the messages, call the cops and file charges against your son, husband, or friend for having sexual contact with a minor. You know, the person you have only talked to through text messages. And since she is sending them and you are replying, even though you have no clue who you are actually talking to, YOU ARE GUILTY!!! As for the little girl you ask? She is free to do it again, she gets no punishment. So as a warning, watch out for those lonely 13 year old girls who have access to a computer that is not monitored by mommy and daddy.

You could be the next one on the Portage County Sexual Preditors page.
