A Randolph man has been sentenced to three years probation and labeled a Tier II sex offender after pleading guilty to having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl last summer.
Robert K. Hyde, 27, of 2192 Hartville Road, was sentenced by Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow last week. He pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony, in December, according to court records.
Enlow ordered Hyde to register his address with his local sheriff's office every six months for the next 25 years. Hyde also was ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program, submit to random drug tests and have no contact with the victim. Enlow told Hyde he could face a year in prison if he violates his probation.
Defense attorney Eric Fink sought probation for his client, saying Hyde had no prior criminal record. The Portage County Prosecutor's Office left sentencing up to Enlow, with the minimum sentence being probation or local jail time, and the maximum being up to 18 months in prison.
A Portage County grand jury indicted Hyde in August 2012 on one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony, and two counts of importuning, both fifth-degree felonies. The charges stemmed from a Portage County Sheriff's Office investigation that revealed Hyde twice solicited a 13-year-old girl to engage in sexual conduct with him between June 1 and Aug. 1, 2012, and engaged in sexual conduct with her on or about July 24, 2012, according to court records.
