A kindergarten orientation program for parents of kindergartners entering school in Ravenna during the upcoming school year is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. March 5 at West Park School.
Principal Ben Ribelin will discuss the programs available, children's health and safety, parent-teacher organization information andexplain registration procedures. A question and answer period will follow.
It is requested that children not attend this meeting.
Registration packets will be handed out so parents can begin to complete the registration process and bring the forms with them to registration.
Registration for the school year will be held at West Park from 9 to 11 a.m.; 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. March 19 and 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. March 20.
Children need not attend.
To register a child in kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1.
Parents must provide the child's birth certificate and Social Security number and immunization records.
Children must have up-to-date complete immunization record to be fully registered, including five doses of DPT/DTAP/DT, four doses of Polio, two doses of MMR, 3 doses of Hepatitis B and 2 doses of Varicella (chicken pox.)
Parents also must provide two forms of proof of residency, including a rental or mortgage statement and their most recent utility bill. If they live with someone else, they must come along to do an affidavit and bring both forms of their proof of residency.
Driver's licenses, checks or credit cards will not be accepted as proof of residency.
Custody papers, if applicable, must have court stamp, state the residential parent and include the signature page.
Letters will be sent to the new students' families the first week in August. They will contain information about the child's assigned teacher and bus schedule.
Families also will be invited to the open house and ice cream social to meet the teachers and have fun on an evening before school begins.
