Ravenna Township home destroyed by fire

A Ravenna Township couple lost their home and two vehicles after a late afternoon blaze Saturday afternoon.

Chief Steve Bosso of the Ravenna Township Fire Department said the fire took place in a home in the 3400 block of Hidden Brook Drive, off Lakewood Road in the western corner of the township. It started in the attached garage, where the homeowner was doing car repair, and spread quickly, with smoke and fire damage throughout the house.

Both the man and his wife were able to get out of the structure safely, and managed to get a few personal belongings from the house. The fire department responded within eight minutes of the call at about 3:20 p.m.

The couple is staying with neighbors temporarily while dealing with their insurance company, Bosso said. Two vehicles parked in the garage and driveway were destroyed. A detailed damage estimate was not immediately available.

In addition to the township firefighters, mutual aid was provided by the Ravenna, Kent, Mantua-Shalersville, Rootstown and Streetsboro fire departments.
