Portage drug task force busts Ravenna man for marijuana sales

Record-courier staff report Published:

A Ravenna man is facing a felony drug charge for allegedly dealing marijuana to undercover Portage County Drug Task Force agents with a child present during a months-long investigation into the sale of the drug.

Jonathan A. Casteel, 29, of 409 Jefferson St., was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Portage County jail on charges of trafficking in marijuana, a fourth-degree felony, and endangering children, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Following his arraignment Wednesday in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna, Casteel posted $500 bond and was freed pending future court dates.

Portage County Sheriff David Doak said Casteel was arrested at his home after a five-month investigation into the sale of drugs out of the residence. Agents were following up on "numerous" complaints about Casteel's alleged activities, he said.

A search of Casteel's home turned up an undisclosed amount of currency and a quantity of marijuana packaged for sale, Doak said. Additional charges are pending presentation of the case to the Portage County Prosecutor's Office and a Portage County grand jury.
