Aurora — An Aurora man died March 6 in a house fire on Route 306.
Firefighters were summoned at 6:09 p.m. to a house at 607 Route 306 that was filled with flames and heavy smoke when they arrived. The home is in the northern part of the city.
There was a report of a person trapped in the house, according to Fire Chief David Barnes, who said fire crews searched the house and found the man’s body in a room that was totally engulfed in fire. The man was dead when firefighters reached him, Barnes said.
The identity of the man was not released by Aurora authorities, who referred the Aurora Advocate to the Portage County coroner's office, which had not returned phone calls as of noon March 7. Barnes said there were no other people or pets in the one-story house.
