Suffield students write plays

By Diane Smith | Staff Writer Published:

Students at Suffield Elementary in the Field School District had a surprise when two students' stories were turned into professionally produced plays by the Barberton Magical Theater's Kidscript Program. In September, the Magical Theater's actors led fourth- and fifth-grade students through a Writing Rally -- a workshop for creative writing. Students then developed and wrote stories, and then submitted them to the theater. Two stories were selected and adapted into short plays. The Magical Theatre Company returned to Suffield Elementary and performed these world premieres for the school. Fourth-graders Kincaid Shriver wrote The Zofda Book of Dragons, and Evelyn Scott, wrote The Adventures of Doctor Brain. These students were quite surprised, especially when they saw their entire families there for the surprise. Evelyn and Kincaid are with the actors and actresses from the Barberton Magical Theater Company.
