Miracle on Main St. began construction on a new Cherry Street warehouse facility this week after the company completed demolition work on a smaller warehouse at the site Friday.
M.O.M.S. President Alex Piteo said the company plans to use the new 7,2000-square-foot facility to receive, stage and ship office supplies and furniture.
"The old (warehouse) was out of date and not being used because it was way too small for what our needs were," Piteo said.
Piteo said he wanted to build a new warehouse facility for M.O.M.S. and another business he owned in Kent more than five years ago, but he moved the warehousing for both businesses to Twinsburg when he could not find a suitable site in Kent. The business' administrative offices and employees stayed on Cherry Street when the warehouse staff moved to the Twinsburg site.
When Piteo sold the other business, he decided to bring warehouse operations for M.O.M.S. back to the Cherry Street site.
"It was never my intention to leave Kent," he said.
Piteo said the company will bring three warehouse and delivery workers from Twinsburg to the new Kent facility when it opens this fall. He said he hopes to add more workers at the site in the future.
"This expansion will fit within the property I own and will provide me with a nice size warehouse and plenty of parking for future growth," Piteo said.
M.O.M.S.' predecessor, Kent Office Supply, was founded in Kent in 1941. Piteo bought out the company in 1990, eventually moving it from its downtown Erie Street location to Cherry Street.
