Published:

State Road re-opened shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday after it was closed for more than five hours following a major traffic accident that ended with a semi truck crashing into the side of a building on State Road and five people being transported to area hospitals.

State Road had been closed from Alro Steel, 4787 State Road, to Seasons Road, while safety forces responded to, and investigated an accident involving three vehicles.

The fire department responded at 9:30 a.m. to a report of a car crash involving two SUVs and a semi tractor-trailer truck in front of Alro Steel on 4787 State Road, according to a fire department news release.

Initially three Falls fire department vehicles responded, and then three more ambulances were requested along with mutual aid from the Stow, Valley, and Akron fire departments, as well as the Summit County Special Operations Response Team-Hazmat Branch.

The semi tractor-trailer truck crashed into the building causing structural damage and spilling diesel fuel, the release stated. The fuel has been contained by the Summit County Hazmat Team.

Five people were transported to the hospital — two for major traumas, one for a trauma assessment and two others for injuries, according to the news release. There are no further updates on the patients.
