Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak announced April 16 the arrest of Andrew G. Knechtle, 25, with a last known address of 133 Brady St., Kent, for robbing the First Merit Bank, 1729 E. Main St., in Franklin Township.
Knechtle has been charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and is being held at the Portage County jail with no bond. He will be arraigned at the Portage County Courthouse at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The robbery occured at 3:45 p.m. April 11, when a male subject entered the bank and indicated that he was armed with a gun. The subject fled from the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. During the follow up investigation, Knechtle was identified as a person of interest. Detectives were able to locate Knechtle and he has been cooperating in the investigation.
