Tillis in county post

Portage County Commissioners have hired Todd Bragg as the new director of their Department of Budget and Financial Management.

Bragg, of Uniontown, starts May 4, succeeding Audrey Tillis, who resigned as budget director in July, 2012 to take the same job in Mahoning County.

Tillis has been working as a consultant for the commissioners since then.

Bragg will be paid $78,000 annually and will be responsible for providing budget and financial guidance to the board and for its departments.

Commissioners Maureen Frederick and Kathleen Chandler voted to hire Bragg. Commissioner Tommie Jo Marsilio did not, and did not give a reason.

Bragg has a master's degree in economics and five years of experience with government accounting.

He worked for more than five years with the City of Akron, where his job duties included budgeting, financial oversight and tracking, financial reporting and forecasting.

Currently, he has been a mathematics teacher at Rootstown Schools for 11 years, teaching mathematics and statistics for grades 9 through 12.

He also serves as an economic consultant to the city of Akron and is an as-needed economics instructor at the University of Akron.
