A woman was sent to the hospital after her car collided with a semi truck on S.R. 261 in Kent on Monday.

The state route was closed between Mogadore Road and Franklin Avenue for several hours as crews cleaned up the wreck.

The woman driving the four-door sedan was transported to Akron City Hospital. Her condition or the extent of her injuries was not known by press time, and a name had not been released. The truck driver was not injured.

Kent Police Officer Matt Butcher said the accident remains under investigation. He said the sedan is totaled.

The collision occurred when the sedan's driver, traveling west on S.R. 261, turned left at the Mogadore Road intersection and was struck by the truck traveling eastbound.

A call for the accident came in at 2:35 p.m., Butcher said. A little before 4 p.m., the damaged truck, which crossed the grassy median and showed front-end damage, was still resting on S.R. 261 facing the wrong direction and awaiting a tow.
