Thunderstorms with heavy rains blew through Portage County Tuesday, knocking down trees and power lines and leaving scattered power outages.
The biggest outage was in the Summit Road area in Franklin Township between Kent and Ravenna, with an estimated 1,500 customers without power, according to First Energy. Another large pocket of between 101 and 500 costumers was without power in Mantua Township in Northern Portage County.
Sporadic outages were reported elsewhere in the county, including Kent, Ravenna and Rootstown.
Heavy rain that reduced visibility also caused flooding on roadways.
A large tree fell on Mogadore Road in Brimfield, closing the road for a time.
Another severe thunderstorm warning was issued Tuesday evening, set to expire at midnight.
And in Ravenna, the new traffic lights that are suppose to keep operating when the power goes out were NOT! Hey Ravenna, aren't you glad you spent all that money on those new traffic lights? When the power went out, so did your NEW LIGHTS! What a waste of money!
