UPDATE: Tornado warning issued in Portage County, S.R. 44 closed

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Tornado Warning for Southern Portage County until 5 p.m.

Update 4:35 p.m.: S.R. 44 between High Street and Goodell Road in Mantua is currently closed due to flooding. Motorists should avoid the area, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

At 3:51 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado located near Hartville and moving east at 30 mph. Locations impacted include Ravenna, Hartville, Kent, Alliance, Brimfield and Limaville.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement, according to the NWS. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or closet.
