Kent police have arrested a Franklin Township man they say robbed the Drug Mart on East Main Street on Wednesday.

Patrick C. Montgomery, 27, of 6594 High St., is charged with robbery, a second-degree felony.

Montgomery allegedly entered the Drug Mart, at 1763 E. Main St., at 5:40 p.m. and "used physical force against an employee to steal money from a cash register," according to Kent police.

Montgomery allegedly fled the store after taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The clerk suffered minor injuries, police said.

Montgomery was identified as a suspect, and arrested on Friday, according to Kent police.

He has a prior conviction for theft of drugs, a fourth-degree felony, for stealing eight tablets of the painkiller oxycodone from a Kent woman on June 8, 2011, according to court records.

In that case, Portage County Common Pleas Judge Laurie Pittman sentenced Montgomery to 75 days in the Portage County jail and ordered him to attend drug rehabilitation at the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program in Warren in October 2011.

Montgomery also was convicted of misdemeanor theft in 2011 and unauthorized use of property in 2005, records show.

Bond information from his arrest Friday was not immediately available.

btw NEOCAP isnt prison, but its by no means means a spa??..I ve spoke to a few who went there and they didnt describe it as some of you do.Do you know how many people are sent to prison some for 5 years get out and use the same day..Like i said before..Let those who want the help have a place to go get it..Then if they come out and go back to using, then prison might end up that persons answer.

Wow..They have been sucess stories from NEOCAP.I have a family member and it saved his life.He got out, found employment, started over and is doing well thanks to NEOCAP.Dont let the few screw this program ..For those who want the help..They need a place to go.Lets say they are put in prison, dont get any help..They will come out and start using again no matter how long they are in..Prison is a temp solution to a life long illness, let one go to the program, see if they can overcome this horrible sickness. If they get out and then go back.. prison might just be the place..But give them a shot at recovery first.

Hey Judge you dam probation don’t work. Here this scumbag is again. Put him where he deserves to be and that is in prison. Sentence him for this crime and the one he got sent to the country club for.  I am sure he did not keep his part of the bargain.

Another example of a major crime committed by a drug addict.

Most likely heroin.
