Sweet Corn Festival continues today in Kent (with gallery)

Christian Ledet, 13, top photo, and Gavin Peeps, 6, both of Kent, enjoy the signature food at the sixth annual Kent Lions Club Sweet Corn Festival, which continues today from noon to 5 p.m. at Beckwith Orchards, 1617 Lake Rockwell Road, Franklin Township. The event includes food, music and activities for children. Proceeds benefit the Lions Club programs.Today's musical lineup features folk group Rio Neon and Kerry Kean and the Bee String Band. Proceeds from the event go toward supporting Lions Sight Projects that provide eyewear and exams to people in need.

The Sweet Corn Festival offers a wide variety of festival mainstays from hot dogs and sausage sandwiches to peach and apple pies, ice cream, and of course, sweet corn. A balloon artist will be twisting colorful creations for the kids, while a variety of carnival games and face painting round out entertainment for children. Beckwith Orchards also offers free trolley rides around the farm, and a collection of craft vendors will have items for sale.
