While the cause of a blaze that engulfed Kent's Checkers-N-Trophies concert club and bar Monday night remains under investigation, there's little hope that the structure can be saved.
"It's a total loss," said Kent Fire Chief Dave Manthey, noting that investigators will assess the total damage and possible origin of the fire today.
No injuries were caused by the fire.
Firefighters responded to two calls at the 352 Elm St. structure Monday. The Kent Fire Department responded first during the afternoon to a smaller fire in the basement, which was extinguished, Manthey said.
At about 9:15 p.m., fire crews were called again for a much larger fire.
"It was rolling when we got here. There was smoke coming out of every possible nook and cranny," he said, adding that the second floor of the structure, which held multiple apartments, completely collapsed into the first floor.
More information is expected later today, after investigators survey the damage, Manthey said.
