A 68-year-old Deerfield man died while swimming at Berlin Reservoir on Wednesday, according to the Portage County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff David Doak said William J. Young, who lived on Bear Hollow Drive, was swimming with his adult son in an inlet near his home when the incident took place. The two like to swim when the weather is warm, Doak said.
Doak said the son was swimming ahead of his father, and at one point noticed that his father was not behind him and had disappeared. After swimming back to the dock where he started, the son "got concerned" and called 911.
The sheriff's office got the call at 4:27 p.m., Doak said.
Divers from the Portage County Water Rescue Team recovered Young's body about 40 yards from the shore at 6:25 p.m., Doak said.
The incident is being treated as an accident, Doak said, adding that the elder Young had some "health issues" that may have contributed to his death.
