The Fairmount Properties development company responsible for the new mixed-use buildings housing Davey Resource Group, Ametek Inc., and several food and retail stops has officially named its residential structure "The Landmark at Kent."
The Landmark at Kent, which is under construction at the intersection of East Erie and South DePeyster streets, has been referred to as "Building C" throughout its planning and construction.
The five-floor building will house a Bricco restaurant on the first floor and 32 one- and two-bedroom apartments on the upper four floors.
Branscomb said the project, which broke ground in March, is still on target to begin housing tenants in April 2014, and Bricco will likely open by Thanksgiving this year.
The apartments, which are marketed as "sophisticated urban living," are priced at about $1,000 per month for one-bedroom units and about $1,400 per month for two-bedroom units.
Amenities will include granite counter tops, exposed duct work along the ceilings, French balconies, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets, a private workout room for tenants and new vantage points looking over Kent.
"We're trying to provide a place where the broader professional community can live to be part of all of the exciting growth that Kent has experienced in the last few years," said Adam Branscomb, Fairmount Properties project manager, adding that a majority of inquiries on leasing have come from young professionals, empty nesters and faculty, staff and administrators at Kent State University. "We're going after the opposite end of the spectrum from student housing."
Exterior brick work began last week, and construction of interior walls is under way.
The total cost of constructing "The Landmark," which has a footprint of about 8,400 square feet, will be about $7.5 million when factoring in costs such as legal fees and financing.
Branscomb said people interested in leasing can contact him at 216-514-8700.
"We're happy to bring this next evolution to the downtown revitalization," he said. "We look forward to providing great new living spaces for the young professionals and the university community in Kent."
