An 86-year-old Akron man died in a collision with a semi truck on S.R. 43 north of Randolph Road in Suffield Friday morning.

According to the Ravenna Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Edward P. Shuber was attempting to pull out onto S.R. 43 from a driveway. His 2009 Mercury Sable was struck by the northbound truck, driven by Allan R. Yoder, 41, of Uniontown, just before 7 a.m.

The truck traveled off the left side of the road, striking a utility pole, according to the highway patrol. Shuber was pronounced dead at the scene by the Portage County Coroner's Office, his body extricated from the car by the Suffield Fire Department and taken to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office in Akron where an autopsy will likely be performed.

Yoder did not require medical treatment. Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the highway patrol.

ODOT said S.R. 43 was closed between Randolph and Saxe roads during cleanup and reopened by 12:45 p.m.

The downed electrical wires on the utility pole added to the time it took to clear the scene, according to the Suffield Fire Department.
