Kent police are seeking the public's help in identifying two suspects in a burglary that took place at the College Towers apartment complex on Rhodes Road early Monday morning, as well as another suspect in an armed robbery that took place at an ATM in the 100 block of North Water Street downtown on Oct. 13.
According to Kent police, officers responded to a reported burglary at 12:03 a.m. Monday inside the apartment complex at 1800 Rhodes Road. Two suspects, who were described as black males in their early 20s wearing dark clothing, assaulted the resident, stole several items and fled on foot, police said. One of the suspects had a light colored T-shirt on under a dark sweatshirt.
No weapons were seen, and the victim received only minor cuts and scrapes and refused medical attention, police said.
The apartment complex is located on the eastern edge of the Kent State University campus. It and other complexes in the area are popular with KSU students, and in a posting on its website, the university urged anyone with information on the alleged crime to call KSU police or dial 911.
In the Oct. 13 incident, police said a thin Hispanic or light-skinned black male -- approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall wearing a light-colored jacket, black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, red hat and black tennis shoes -- approached an elderly man making a transaction at an ATM in the 100 block of North Water Street at 6:50 p.m. that day.
The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, demanded and took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim, then fled northbound on foot on North Water Street. The suspect also put a Halloween-type mask on his face during the robbery, police said.
No injuries were reported in that incident.
Anyone with information about either of the incidents should call the Kent Police Department at 330-673-7732 or leave a tip at www.kentpd.org.
