Local businesses helping collect food for the holidays

Portage County businesses have come together to assist the Center of Hope and Kent Social Services collect food for the holidays.

Donations are being sought to fill food boxes for needy families.

Food donations can be dropped off at the following locations: PARTA, Land O Lakes, ACS Industries, Portage Community Bank in Ravenna and Kent, the Kent Fire Department, Portage Industries, Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Happy Day School, Ravenna School District, First Place Bank, A Way of Life, Hometown Bank, United Way, Portage County Adult Probation, Fortis College, Portage County Administration Building, Portage County courthouse, Maplewood Career Center, Allen Aircraft, Parker Hannifin, Ravenna Elks Club, Portage Community Chapel, Amanda's Garden, Ravenna Township Fire Department, Dollar General, Haasz Auto Mall and the Portage County Engineer's Office.

Needed items include: cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, Jello, cake and muffin mix, stuffing, soup, canned fruit, canned sweet potatoes/yams, rice or pasta, potatoes, onions, apple sauce and fresh fruit (apples or oranges).

Boxes will be picked up on Nov. 6 to fill the Thanksgiving food baskets. Donation boxes for Christmas food baskets will be left again at most locations.
