Goodwill bet between Streetsboro, Kent mayors pays off

Published:

The inaugural goodwill bet between the mayors and chambers of commerce from Kent and Streetsboro culminated with the payoff at the Pufferbelly Ltd. Kent Mayor Jerry Fiala accepted a donation for his mayor's scholarship fund from Streetsboro Mayor Glenn Broska. Lori Wemhoff, executive director of the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce was given a donation for the chamber scholarship fund from Valerie Fiala, her Streetsboro chamber counterpart and Jerry Fiala's daughter. The donations were a result of Theodore Roosevelt Rough Riders victory over the Streetsboro Rockets football team. "The student-athletes play hard for their respective schools on the field, and in the end it's the students who win because of their hard work in the classroom," said Fiala. "This is just a fun way for us to show our team and community pride and give back to the kids, who are the overall winners."
