WKSU hosts special holiday programs

R-C Staff Report Published:

WKSU is celebrating the holidays with special public radio shows on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

On Tuesday, listeners can tune in to a live broadcast from King's College Chapel in Cambridge, UK, for "A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" from 10 a.m. to noon. A public radio tradition, the festival was introduced in 1918 to bring a more imaginative approach to worship. At 7 p.m. , NPR's Bob Boilen and friends will play the best holiday songs from new and emerging breakout bands on "All Songs Considered for the Holidays."

Christmas Day programs begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday with Handel's "Messiah" from Boston. Music continues at noon when 600 student musicians gather for the century-old St. Olaf Christmas Festival, a celebration of hymns, carols, choral works, and orchestral selections celebrating the Nativity.
