The father of an infant Windham girl who died suddenly in August has been indicted by a Portage County grand jury on seven felony charges for allegedly causing her death.
Timothy T. Sullivan, 25, of 9142 Maplegrove Road, was arrested Tuesday by the Portage County Sheriff's Office on an indictment charging him with the following in the death of Scarlett Ariel Sullivan, age two-and-a-half months:
- one count of involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony
- one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony
- three counts of child endangering, two second-degree felonies and one third-degree felony
- one count of reckless homicide, a third-degree felony
- one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony
Timothy Sullivan is being held in the Portage County jail without bond, pending his initial court appearance, according to the sheriff's office. The case has been assigned to Portage County Common Pleas Judge John Enlow. It was not immediately clear if Sullivan had an attorney.
The arrest comes following an investigation into the death of Scarlett Sullivan, who was born on June 5 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. According to Portage County Sheriff David Doak, Timothy Sullivan told investigators he woke up on Aug. 22, 2013, to find Scarlett unresponsive.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at Robinson Memorial, and an investigation was initiated by the Windham Police Department, which requested the assistance of the sheriff's office, Doak said. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation also assisted.
"During that investigation it was learned that Sullivan's actions that morning did result in the death of the infant," he said, announcing the findings of the grand jury.
Police are routinely involved in the unexplained deaths of infants, the sheriff's office said in August, announcing the investigation. At the time, sheriff's Maj. Dale Kelly said there were "no obvious signs" of homicide, and that detectives were awaiting a final autopsy report.
