Fire crews battle house fire on S.R. 59 in Ravenna Township

By Dave O'Brien | staff writer Published:

Crews from nine Portage County fire departments responded to a fire inside a historic 1829-era Ravenna Township house at 2979 S.R. 59 Thursday afternoon.

There was no immediate word on any injuries.

Windows were broken out and smoke billowed from the red brick house, located just west of Globe Auto Sales, as firefighters entered and exited and watched fellow crews operate.

Traffic in both lanes of S.R. 59 was backed up, with Portage County sheriff's deputies providing traffic control at the scene.

The house was built in 1829 by Deacon Adam Poe, who bought 200 acres west of Ravenna from the Tappan family, one of Ravenna's founding families.
