A Stow man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to the rape and kidnapping of his neighbor in September.

Filip Konstantinovich, 49, of Fishcreek Road, also was labeled a Tier II Sex Offender, requiring him to register every 90 days for life, during his sentencing by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O'Brien.

In September, after a four-day crack cocaine binge, Konstantinovich broke into a neighbor's apartment and raped her at knifepoint, according to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh's office. At one point, the victim pretended to pass out when he was choking her.

Stow police were able to get fingerprints and Konstantinovich's DNA at the scene.

According to Stow Police, officers entered Kostantinovich's apartment after the woman told them he had said he intended to commit suicide. Officers found he had fled the scene.

Two days later, Stow police received a call from an employee at the Walmart in Brimfield that Konstantinovich was inside the store.

When Brimfield and Tallmadge officers arrived, Konstantinovich was found in his car in the parking lot.

He then led officers on a pursuit before he crashed into a utility pole at Howe and Mogadore roads and was arrested, according to the police report.

  • It is too bad that this low life did not carry through with the suicide. The world would be a better place if he did. ┬áHe should have been charged with attempted murder also. If it was not for the fact that we would have to feed this thing, I would say lock his sorry *** up for 50 years.
