The Record-Courier is a finalist in three categories of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors' 2013 newspaper contest, the group announced Wednesday.
Editor Roger J. Di Paolo is a finalist in the Best Editorial Writer category. The sports department, headed by Sports Editor Tom Nader, is a finalist for Best Daily Sports Section. News Editor Chad Murphy is a finalist for Best Full Page Layout.
The awards in actual order of finish -- first, second and third places -- will be announced at the Ohio APME annual awards banquet May 18 in Columbus. The General Excellence and First Amendment winners also will be announced at the meeting.
Sixty-four daily newspapers submitted 2,599 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos from 2013.
The Associated Press's members include 85 daily newspapers in Ohio. The Record-Courier has been an AP member since 1991.
Here's another category: Fewest Comments Allowed on Obamacare or Social Issues (see today's edition for two more prime examples).
I'm not impressed by liberals sitting in a circle handing out awards to each other.
