Layoffs of three Streetsboro employees to save $225,000

Three city employees have been laid off in the name of efficiency, said Mayor Glenn Broska.

The layoffs came as the result of a job analysis of city employees that indicated the duties of Engineering Director Bruce Terrell, Engineering Inspector Amy Flake and Parks & Recreation Program Coordinator Andrea Parma-Schaefer's duties could be absorbed by others while realizing a savings, he explained.

"We are always looking for ways to run this city as efficiently as we possibly can," Broska said.

According to Finance Director Jenny Esarey, the city stands to save about $225,212 annually, including Medicare, pension, Workers Comp and Benefits, from the layoffs.

Terrell's 2014 salary is $70,720; Flake's is $45,822; and Parma-Schaefer's is $39,748, according to Esarey.

Broska said the layoffs were not based on performance of the employees.

The study, administered by Broska and Human Resources Director Clay Morris, was undertaken because "we had seen through observations that there may be areas where we could run the city more efficiently," according to Broska.

Morris said residents won't notice any changes.

"There's been no effect on the services or safety for the city of Streetsboro," he said.
