Tornado safety drill set today in Kent

The Kent Police Department will activate the emergency siren system at 9:50 a.m. today as part of a statewide tornado safety drill.

The drill, organized by the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness, is part of the annual National Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which runs from March 2-8.

The emergency sirens will sound for three minutes.

A downloadable tornado safety tips flier prepared by the Portage County Emergency Management Agency is available on the department's website, www.kentpd.org. Residents wanting further information about severe weather safety week are encouraged to visit www.weathersafety.ohio.gov.
