Great day for Irish in Garrettsville, Kent

Published:

Garrettsville promises a great day for the Irish -- and those who are Irish-for-a-day -- when the community hosts its annual St. Patrick's Day celebration Monday.

Restaurants and shops in the downtown area will be taking part in the observance, with several kicking off the day-long celebration with breakfast -- and brew, for those so inclined. Many restaurants will be featuring specials throughout the day.

The Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a line-up of family entertainment from 3 to 7 p.m. that includes bagpipes, balloon art, carriage rides, and live music.

A bagpiper will perform at Sean's Pub/Slim & Jumbo's/Main Street from 3 to 5 p.m. Jason Adkins will be doing balloon art at Cal's Restaurant & Pizza Express from 5 to 6 p.m. and Main Street Grill & Brewing Company from 6 to 7 p.m. Flower Clown will do balloon art at DQ Grill & Chill from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Carriage Rides by Sam Bixler will be available on Main Street from 5 to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Irish music will be present by Top O' the Hill from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Village Bookstore. Kindred Spirits will present Irish tunes at the Eagles Club from 5 to 8 p.m.

In addition to the festivities in Garrettsville, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional cause for celebration in downtown Kent, where bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues will be open for revelers from early morning until the wee hours.
