The Stow Police Department is investigating a likely homicide after discovering a female corpse in a backyard shed at a Maplepark Road residence during a welfare check Saturday.
At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Stow police received a call from the mother of the victim who requested a welfare check on her daughter, according to Stow police. The mother told police she had not heard from her daughter for two days and was concerned for her well-being.
The officer performing the welfare check received no response at either the front or rear door to the home. The officer then passed by an open shed near the rear of the home, and spotted a hand protruding from underneath a pile of blankets in the shed. Upon further inspection, a white female was discovered under the pile of blankets, and appeared to be the victim of a homicide, according to police.
The incident is being treated as a homicide, and the name of the victim and further information are being withheld until the coroner's office makes a positive identification, which is expected Monday, according to the lead investigator, Det. Sgt. Steve Dunton.
Anyone with information regarding the homicide is asked to call Dunton at 330-689-5707.
